What Is Outsider Art, Memory Art, Folk Art, and Visionary Art?

In a general sense of the word, TRADITIONAL FOLK ART is part of a person's heritage.....a craft or art that is passed down from generation to generation.

VISIONARY ART is often futuristic or religious in nature. One of the best examples of visionary art is early works created by the late Rev. Howard Finster "Patron Saint of Folk Art". Howard was the most exhibited by ALL American artists (folk or otherwise). He was also the builder of Paradise Gardens in Summerville GA

MEMORY ART is the recreating of the sights and scenes from one's childhood.

OUTSIDER FOLK ART. This term is usually applied to self-taught, untrained artists working out of the mainstream...usually with recycled parts. Also sometimes called "contemporary folk art". There is much confusion of titles....but we like to just call it "Outsider Art" or "Outsider Folk Art".
