GEORGE E. BORUM.....aka.....MUROB I first met George selling his artwork at a flea market in 1988. Little did I know back then all the talents he has. George has been publishing a Country Humor calendar since 1975...it’s called “Poor ol’ George™ calendar frum Possum County™ in which he does all of the creative work. He formerly published a quarterly newsletter, has written numerous books, recorded a country humor cassette, did on-stage shows, has done scores of interviews on radio and TV, voiced scores of radio and TV commercials, graduated from auction school when he was ten, operated a chain of bookstores, and was a sign painter for many years. He’s done more in one lifetime than most of us could only dream of doing. After we met, George continued to live in the south and when we decided to get married he made the dreaded move north....but, we traveled to Summerville, GA to be married by Rev. Howard Finster. (the Godfather of Folk Art). We will always remember that day. It was a beautiful Sunday in October. Howard’s daughter Beverly and her daughter Heather were witnesses. There must have been 50 strangers there to witness our blessed event. What a way to start off our new life together. George is now doing folk art. George’s folk artwork is easily identifiable by a glorious use of dots, dashes and squiggles. He works mostly with a bold palette of primary colors but his patriotic sense is reflected in his regular use of red, white and blue stars and striped themes. He is color blind and many times it shows up in unusual color combinations. He does flat work, assemblages, cutouts, and his “signature signposts” and also applies his whimsy to objects like tables, chairs, birdhouses, coffee pots, globes, boxes, bottles and jugs. Many items are inscribed with his wit and wisdom and his offbeat sense of humor with whimsical visual puns and cliches. When he started doing folk art....it was NOT for sale. He just painted for his own enjoyment. With more time on his hands, he now is painting more and selling some of his work. George is so creative! The man can’t throw anything away....he just recycles other people’s trash into new treasures. Because George and his Dad have the same name (his Dad is also a talented artist) George turned his last name around and became “MUROB“ to save on the confusion. MUROB is now accepting commissions & special orders. What would you like him to make for you? eMail him or me! SHEILA eMail MUROB at Murob@PossumCounty.com Click here for: |
